Dr. Kim Dinan

Veterinarian

A Native New Englander from coastal Connecticut, Dr. Dinan’s life has followed the path of a true lover of animal health and welfare. Her research thesis at UMASS Amherst involved the development of an assay used to easily determine the physical stress levels of horses through measuring hormones in the saliva compared to the blood. This helped earn her a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science with minors in Biology and Biochemistry in 2002. She followed this by earning a Master’s Degree in Animal Biotechnology and Biomedical Sciences in 2004 in conjunction with Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Her work during this part of her education changed our understanding about a common, sometimes fatal, disease of the hooves in horses called laminitis. This research was published in the Equine Veterinary Journal and paved the way for new therapies for this debilitating disease.

Dr. Dinan graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008 followed by an internship in small animal emergency and specialty practice at the Aurora and Berwyn Animal Hospitals in Illinois. She then began the long and difficult path to becoming certified in Veterinary Acupuncture through the prestigious Chi Institute. Not stopping there, she also became a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP) through the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. Since that time, she has been honing her skills in these specialties as well as small animal general practice. Her professional interests include pain management, rehabilitation to help mobility, geriatric medicine, musculoskeletal & neurologic disease, immunology, and dentistry. Her coolest veterinary-related excursion was a trip to the Martin Buser Iditarod School in Big Lake, Alaska to learn pain relief modalities and rehabilitation techniques with sled dogs. She even learned to “mush” her own sled dog team!

Dr. Dinan spends her non-veterinary time with her husband, son, daughter, a Corgi named Gizmo, a Frenchie mix named Brutus the Buckeye, and two Guinea pigs. They are National Park junkies with the goal of seeing them all. (Yellowstone and all of Utah so far…) For personal fun, she enjoys rock climbing, hiking, scuba diving, biking, skiing, sewing, and reading.

She is also an avid distance runner and will be running her first Boston Marathon in 2025 to benefit the Dana Farber Cancer Research team. This is a cause close to her heart as she is a longstanding lab research committee member at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She has also been volunteering since 2020 at the APCSM Animal Shelter in Brockton.

Dr. Dinan is looking forward to her career at Duxbury Animal Hospital where our clients have such a strong focus on their pets’ wellness and care. She plans to use our advanced equipment and team to further her skills in using ultrasound to better diagnose musculoskeletal disease and target better treatments.
